How about volunteering at our amazing, vintage undercover working fairground?
Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, near Lifton, is run by a charitable trust, founded in 1986, to preserve and present our historic fairground heritage. Our collection of fairground art and artefacts is indisputably world class and the most comprehensive and important in this country.
We are seeking lively, outgoing, friendly people to engage with our visitors and enhance their experience at the Fairground Heritage Centre. If you have previously worked with children, so much the better.
We have two volunteer recruitment days coming up in May which are free to attend, and will give you an insight into what we do – A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes so opportunities exist for those with a trade or skill to offer in carpentry, painting, electrical work, IT, conservation, admin and many other areas, as well as assisting with operating the centre on a day to day basis.
Our recruitment days will be held on Wednesday 11 May and Saturday 14 May. There will be tours at 11.00, 13.00 & 15.00. If possible we ask you to pre-book by calling us on 01566 783425 or emailing our Curator, Nick Sturgess. Preference for the tours will be given to people who have pre-booked, but you are also welcome to turn up on the day, and we’ll slot you into the next available tour.
Potential volunteers will be shown around the three main buildings at the Fairground Heritage Centre and have a few rides. Afterwards there will be a sit down talk in the café with an opportunity to ask questions. Refreshments will be served. You will also be asked to fill in our application form.
As a new volunteer you will be mentored and supervised by our museum staff and become part of a team of enthusiastic volunteers with days/hours to suit you.
